As you might have guess, this forum thrives off of the existence of well thought out, member-made characters. Without them we wouldn't be able to role-play in the wonderful world of Harry Potter. That would be a sad thing indeed. Because characters are so important here on The Shimmering Wand, we thought that it was important to share a guideline of what sort of characters we expect to see our members create. Please take a few moments to read everything before you begin the character building process. This will insure that you have a firm grasp of what is and isn't acceptable when making your character's autobiography.
No Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus Mary-Sues/Gary-Stus are characters that are unrealistically perfect in every way. There is no such thing as a perfect person. We all have negative traits, flaws, and characteristics. You should remember this while making the characters that you will be playing on the forum. A character that is perfect at everything is not only annoying, it is unbelievable. So, make sure that you give your characters positive and negative traits.
Details, Details, Details The more details that you can provide for your characters, the more realistic they will seem to other readers. When describing their appearence, don't just say that they are pretty or handsome. Explain what makes them pretty or handsome. If the character only has one parent, explain their relationship with the parent that they do have and explain what happened to the parent that is gone. The more details you provide, the better.
In Character Chat
This chat is available for all of those wishing to discuss plotlines with one another. Please do not confuse it with a place for in-depth plot development. You can do that by going to our Character Building section and then visiting the Plot Bunnies board.
